Honor Roll

Jeremy and Courtney were both inducted to the National Honor Roll. Only 18 students from their school were selected and they were 2 of the 18....YEAH! This year, 547 South Dakota students were inducted. To see a complete list of SD students that were inducted, you can visit the site at http://johnson.senate.gov/.

Robin Hood

Jeremy shot a Robin Hood at Shooting Sports on Sunday....yeah Jeremy (and Courtney happened to have her camera with her...yeah Courtney). A robin hood is when you shoot a tight group and one arrow "shoots" into another arrow. It ends up looking like one LONG arrow.
He ended up shooting a perfect round on that group of arrows....25 out of 25. His total was 141 out of 150. He was pretty excited (and so was mom).!

Basketball Season Ends

Our boys were defeated last night in the first round of Districts so they are now done with their season too. Jeremy is done with his basketball career.....*sniff, sniff*....can you feel my pain and sadness??!! I did shed quite a few tears last night and Jeremy shed a few of his own....not like him at all. He has played with this group of wonderful boys for many years and they all get along so well. I am going to miss watching him and the rest of the seniors play.

A Week of Birthdays

This is the week of Birthdays!
Yesterday my awesome niece Kennedy celebrated her 11th birthday! We were honored to get to spend Saturday evening out for supper with her to celebrate.
Tomorrow both my Grandma and my brother will celebrating birthdays! My "baby" brother will be the big 3-0 and grandma is 80 something and still going strong! She helps milk cows and does calf chores daily, plus takes care of grandchildren all the time and makes the meals for the "boys" on the farm. She is one busy woman!
Happy Birthday to all of you....I love you!

Bitter Cold!

What does a farm wife do on a bitter cold day?? Load pigs.....grrrrr!

It was -24 yesterday morning and all I wanted to do was snuggle up in a warm bed......but duty called and we had 4 loads of pigs to send out starting at 7 am. They didn't want to go out any more than I did so it was a very difficult day of loading to put it mildly!

We were going to work at the hog site all day and get some repairs and maintenance done but since it was so cold, when we finished with the stuff that we had to get done (about 1:00), we called it a day (outside anyway). It took me until about 4:00 to warm up!

All I have to say is Thank God that the wind was not blowing and can spring please come soon??!!

Another Night of Lasts

Courtney's basketball team lost first round of Districts, so they are finished for the year. We had some very sad girls last night and watching them cry did make me shed a few tears of my own. They are a really close group of girls....only one senior, no juniors, 6 sophomores and 4 freshmen.

Courtney was so upset that they didn't have practice anymore either....I remember that being the most relief after finishing the season. Maybe that's why these girls get along as well as they do, played as well as the did all year and ended up with a very good record.

Senior Night

Last night was senior night for the boys basketball team. My precious son was one of the seniors being recognized. I thought it would be a night of many tears for me. It was a night of many LASTS! It was Jeremy's last home basketball game...ever. It was the last time this group of boys will warm up together before a game on the home floor. It was the last time he would be announced as the starting center on our home floor. It was his last regular season game (districts start next week..away). It was the last time I will sit in those stands cheering my son on.
I am proud to say that I did NOT shed a tear! That doesn't mean that I am not sad, I just know that he is ready to be moving on and he has had a great time in high school and has made the most of it. Now, when he does play his VERY LAST game, I am sure there will be a few tears....and that last came could be any one of them now as we are into tournament play.

Update!

I have an update on my Sweet Son and the chocolates!
His snoopy little sister did some digging for me and came up with the 9 girls that were the recipients of the boxes of chocolates!

4 of them were some of his close senior 'girl' friends.

4 of them were freshman girls that he and his sister both hang out with (and his sister plays basketball with).....one of them he has asked to prom too but he insists that they are "just friends".

And the last one went to his sister.....awwwww.....brought tears to my eyes!

My Sweet Son

My sweet son drove to Watertown (over 30 miles away) last night after basketball practice and 4-H.....in a near blizzard........

To pick up some of these for his "friends"!

He has some girl friends (he does not have a steady girlfriend....they are strictly friends) that have never gotten chocolates for Valentine's Day. So....being the gentleman that he is....decided to change that for them! He came home with 9 boxes of chocolates.

His comment to me last night was "I hope I make their day". If I was a teenage girl that had never received chocolates for Valentine's Day....I think that would make my day!

It's a Party!

I've been invited to a party......a Pampered Chef party.....but at my age you get excited being invited to ANY party!

My friend Laurie is having a Pamperd Chef party on Saturday. I went to one in December and bought a few things...one was the hamburger chopper you use when browning hamburger (not sure what it's "official"name is). Several of you had talked about it on your blogs so I took your advise and bought one and I absolutely LOVE it!

I am looking for your help.....what are your favorite Pampered Chef items....I need ideas on what to buy at this party.

It's a Sale!

It's a Sale.......A Livestock Sale that is!

We are hauling our calves to town today for the Sale tomorrow. We normally haul them the day of the sale but we load 5 more loads of hogs in the morning and wouldn't have time, so the calves are all "headin' to town" today.

We are hoping to get done loading hogs in time to get to town to watch the calves sell. It's always a good feeling to watch them sell and see how the hard work that we've put into them from the day they are born until now (almost 1 year later) pay off.

This and That

This weekend was a mixture of this and that....basketball, shooting sports volunteer work, Super Bowl and all the other "usual" things that go along with the farm.....chores etc.Friday night was Parents night for both the girls and boys basketball teams.....above in the center of the picture is us....Jeremy (with the knee brace), Me, Courtney (#14) and Chad.
Here is our niece Kassidy and her mom and dad, Bryon and Kristi. Kassidy is in the 8th grade and on the JV team.

Both the boys and girls teams won on Friday night and the girls also played on Saturday night, winning and bringing their record up to 13-4. The boys' record is now 8-8.

Sunday we had a pancake feed for a fundraiser for our Shooting Sports team. Above are the kids that showed up to work the early shift. Jeremy is in the bright yellow shirt, my nephew Nolan to his left and Courtney to the left of Nolan.

We finished off the weekend with a Super Bowl party here at our home with several of our good friends coming and brining lots of yummy food!
